Having an IGP designation after your name reassures clients, colleagues and the general public that you are a fully qualified expert in your field with specialized knowledge and experience in sustainable development. 

IGP credentials are only awarded to individuals who are prepared to maintain high standards in a way that is to the public advantage.

Most IGP Members have years of specialized sustainability/sustainable development expertise and are already highly regarded experts in their field. This begs a question:

Increasingly, sustainability “throws up the challenges of solving complex real-life problems that transcend traditional disciplinary boundaries and knowledge system” (Willetts & Mitchell, 2006). As complexity and specialization within the sustainability environment increase, the leaders, the most successful, and the most effective participants will be those that have the knowledge and insights generated through multiple disciplines (i.e., they are closer to “sustainable development literacy" and being able to communicate with others in a "common language" of sustainable development).

IGP has developed, in cooperation with leading scholars and professionals, a comprehensive core course for all Members and specialty courses for the numerous professional and academic specialties in sustainable development. In addition to the educational opportunities, IGP will market you, your work, and your professional and academic consulting practice to valuable alliances.

The short answer:

To market your sustainable development expertise and to learn from IGPs transdisciplinary “sustainable development literacy" program in order to be an even more effective sustainability leader, and to be recognized as such.
