DESIGNATIONS

 

Applicants for the Fellow IGP designation are required to have:

  1. Completion of the Membership Application indicating that the application is for the FIGP designation. A new Application is required of FIGP Applicants from all other membership categories;
  2. A relevant professional designation or degree;1
  3. A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in a relevant specialty. A relevant specialty is broadly defined to include architecture, accounting, land planning, landscape architecture residential and/or commercial real property valuation/appraisal, engineering, law and social responsibility. Additional relevant specialties will be determined by IGP on a case-by-case basis;
  4. Submission of curriculum vitae/professional resume;
  5. Submission of a copy of current state issued professional license(s)2, if a licensed professional;
  6. Successful completion of the required IGP "General Comprehensive Course:
    Sustainable Development Literacy for Professionals" and Examination;
  7. Successful completion of one of the seven (7) IGP specialty courses and examination. The specialty course must be consistent with the individuals stated area of professional experience (e.g., land planners take the land planning specialty course and architects take the architecture specialty course). For those individuals who are State Certified General Appraisers or State Certified Residential Appraisers (or a real property appraiser in any other country other than U.S.A) applicants must complete/pass, depending upon their type of state license or type of practice, the Residential or Commercial Appraisal IGP Course and Examination.  However, Members are encouraged to take all specialty courses.

 There are only four (4) exemptions to taking and passing the required specialty course:

  1. When the designation Applicant has been the first or second author in a book on a sustainability or sustainable development topic as determined by IGP on a case-by-case basis;
  2. When the P.Eng. Applicant is a Certified Industrial Hygenist (CIH) of the American Industrial Hygiene Association and/or Certified Energy Manager (CEM) of the Association of Energy Engineers and/or Board Certified Environmental Engineer (BCEE) of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers. Other engineering designations/degrees will be considered by IGP on a case-by-case basis;
  3. When the Architect applicant has completed the Boston Architectural College Certificate in Sustainable Design or a similar program (to be determined on a case-by-case basis by IGP) or the Associate has a Master of Ecological Design degree or a similar degree from an IGP recognized institution as determined by IGP on a case-by-case basis.
  4. The CSR/accounting applicant has completed an MBA or graduate program in sustainability/accounting from an IGP recognized institution as determined by IGP on a case-by-case basis.


There is only one (1) exception to taking and passing the General Comprehensive Course:
when the Applicant has a PhD in a relevant specialty from an IGP recognized institution as
determined by IGP on a case-by-case basis.

Qualified individuals who have met the FIGP designation qualifications
(and IGP annual dues are current) shall be entitled to use the designation “FIGP.”

1Relevant professional designation(s) as determined by the IGP Board of Directors include:

CIH/CEM/BCEE, AIA/FAIA/MRAIC/FRAIC, JD/LLB/LLM/SJD,
CPA/CA/CFM/MBA/DBA/PhD (in a relevant specialty),
AICP/FAICP, ASLA/FASLA/CSLA/FCSLA, SRA/CRA, 
MAI/MRICS/FRICS (in real property valuation),
AACI, P.App./ARA/RPRA, 
P.Eng. are required to also have BCEE, although other qualifications by
P.Eng. applicants may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

2 IGP membership is open to relevant professionals from any part of the world. The Board of Directors currently recognizes government licenses from all European Union member countries, Canada, Australia, Korea, Japan, China and Turkey. All applications, forms and correspondence with IGP must be provided in English. The Board of Directors will consider applicants and designations from any other country, however, in order to qualify for the Fellow designation, a relevant professional designation is a required prerequisite.
