In cooperation with major academic institutions, IGP assists in the public dissemination of all types of sustainability research. We believe that it is absolutely essential to the global sustainability community and the public that there is an effective medium for a
link between sustainability professionals and academia.

According to the 2007 Forum for Sustainability Science Programs Roundtable of the Center for Science, Technology, and Sustainable Development at the American Association for the Advancement of Science:

Practitioners of Sustainability science must . . . therefore establish a trans-disciplinary academic framework that brings together the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities, and define and structure problems and academic enquiries so as to identify indicators and criteria for the sustainable restoration of global, social and human systems  and their interactions. Sustainability science must also reach out to society at large.  Only by disseminating the results of our research to society and the individuals that compose it can we achieve a sustainable society. (p. B-111).
